Medium
Painting - Oil On Canvas
Description
This wonderful creation appears to be inspired by Shakespeare’s Macbeth in the lines, “And pit, like a naked new-born babe/, Striding the blast, or heaven’s cherubin, hors’d/ Upon the sightless couriers of the air.” It has been subjected to many interpretations. Some see this as a personification of the Christian virtue but which Blake viewed in a negative light as “the failure of inspiration”. There are four versions of this image and this is the most famous and elaborate that is in the Tate Gallery in London.
