Stunning view of the sun setting over marshlands by American landscape and wildlife painter, Martin Johnson Heade (1819-1904). Although sometimes associated with both the 19th century Romantic movement, and the Hudsorn River School of landscape artists, Heade's vivid and highly detailed pictorial style was ultimately uniquely his. Little recognised during his lifetime, Heade's work began to attract the attention of scholars, art historians and collectors during the 1940s. He quickly became recognized as a major American artist, and these days his paintings command considerable sums at auction.
